How to dominate your market

Before you can take your market by storm, you’ll need more than just a business plan, determination, and a pretty website. While these things do help, having a solid search engine optimization and online marketing strategy will get you the best results. We will discuss some pro SEO tips that can help increase your business’ market share and help your online presence.

  1. Understand your customers’ search behavior

    Walk in their shoes, and understand the dialogue the searcher is having with the web. Most customers are researching or looking for a problem to solve. If you understand what problem they’re trying to solve (keywords and phrases) you can provide them with a very customized solution to it (your landing page, website…and ultimately your product).

  2. Decide how you will track conversions

    Often this is easy…it’s when you make a sale. Other times it can be trickier. If you’re a real estate agent, you’ll most likely be tracking leads. In addition, you’ll have to assign some kind of dollar value to that lead so you can determine how much advertising to spend in order to get it.

  3. Set up auto responders

    Autoresponders are simply a way to keep in touch with your customers and prospects. Essentially it’s automated email.

  4. Do the keyword research

    • Come up with 5 to 10 core keywords within a diverse group
    • Analyze the website’s of your competitors using tools
    • Use other tools to expand the core list
  5. Group keywords by the conversation type

    You really want to discover what it is that your potential customer is looking for. For example, if you’re a real estate agent your prospects will be having different conversations if they’re looking for a house from a different state as opposed to someone already in your area looking at the same property. The latter is probably not familiar with the neighborhood, schools, parks, etc., while the former is much more likely to be.

  6. Build landing pages on your site for each conversation type

    You’d want the two different potential customers above to go to two different pages within your site, because you want to highlight the different value propositions you’re bringing to the table…to solve their particular problem.

    The Google external keyword tool is the foundation for all my keyword research. I may use other tools such as market samurai or keyword elite to get more data on my keywords, or to drill down more, but I always get my original list straight from the horses mouth.
